Open Meeting: John Davidson speaks about the ‘Lost Rivers of Exeter’

Saturday 17th May at 10:30 - 12:00
The Mint Methodist Church Centre, Fore Street, Exeter EX4 3AT
A social event where visitors and guests are welcome and refreshment will be available. Our speaker John Davidson will inform us about the lost rivers of Exeter and what can be done to 'daylight' some of them again.

1000 years ago, the landscape of Exeter featured several small rivers draining into the River Exe. Today there is no trace of some of these rivers except for an occasional dip in the road, a bridge over nothing or a street name. Other “lost” rivers appear tantalisingly in the surface for short distances before disappearing again into culverts or tunnels. This talk will explore the history of these lost rivers and their importance both in the past and today. It will conclude by looking at the concept of “daylighting” lost rivers.

Parking onsite is limited for disabled people only, telephone the Mint on 01392 279786 to reserve a space. This City Centre venue is well served by public transport and there are public car parks nearby.
