Then, Now & Next Walk: Pinhoe via Poltimore to Broadclyst (approx 5 miles)

Meeting at Pinhoe Library at 11am, take the 10:35 No 1 o 10.30 No 1a bus from Exeter Bus Station

Hilary Neville has planned our next walk. July’s walk takes us out of the City to visit three villages: Pinhoe, Poltimore and Broadclyst. Points of interest will range from ancient churches to brand new housing, and there’s a great view from near Pinhoe Church. The walk is five miles long, and includes a long climb at the start up to Pinhoe church. But don’t be deterred! It is all quite easy underfoot. It will take place on Monday 14th July, starting at 11:00 am, at Pinhoe Library - please note the date and time which are planned in order to allow us to break for lunch at the Poltimore House cafe.

Meet at Pinhoe Library, Main Street Pinhoe, at c11:00. If you plan to come, please let Hilary Neville know via the WhatsApp group, or email her at hneville.ecs@btinternet.com.

Getting to Pinhoe: Bus 1 and 1a leave Exeter bus station at 10:30 and 10:35. The SWR train leaves Exeter Central at 10:30 and gets to Pinhoe Station at 10:35 (extra walking involved).

Return: Bus 1 or 1a from Broadclyst shelter, time depending on how long the walk takes.

NB The only toilets and refreshments are at Poltimore House. If anyone wants to bring their own picnic, this should be fine as long as most of us order a lunch or a drink from the cafe.

All our walks are advertised in the public section of our website under ‘Events’. They are also listed in the monthly News Bulletin. Before leaving home to join us on a walk, can we please ask you to check the website entry. At times we had to cancel walks last minute due to weather or illness of the lead. So please double-check that the walk is actually still on to avoid disappointments.

For walks you can subscribe (as preferred means of communications) to a Whatsapp group now run by Gert Vonhoff for the ECS walks under: https://chat.whatsapp.com/H9GRjkBkiIoBNc6ZfwAnMK ; all information and communications should preferably run via this group. You need to check before coming that the walk is on like scheduled, as cancellations will be notified through this platform. This Whatsapp group is restricted, so you need contact Gert to be granted access. This might take a few days, and it is best to send Gert an email with the request, your full name and mobile number, so he can add you to the group. Additionally you need to have Gert with mobile and email listed in your contacts.

As the function of the Whatsapp group is to communicate about the walks, please do not use this as a general chatroom.

If you prefer not to become member of the Whatsapp group, you are requested to book yourself in for each individual walk by either sending Gert an email (gertvonhoff@btinternet.com) or a text message to his mobile (07766 706614). This way we can inform you should a walk have to be cancelled with short notice.

Otherwise please use Gert’s mobile phone contact only as a means of last resort.
